Occupational therapy (OT) is a branch of health care that helps people of all ages who have physical, sensory, or cognitive problems. It is the profession that helps people across the lifespan to do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations). Occupational therapy practitioners enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, and prevent injury, illness, or disability.
Our occupational therapist treats a wide range of Upper extremity orthopedic conditions and also specializes in improving movement and restoring function in following neurological conditions like :
- Fracture, dislocation and subluxation of fingers, hand, wrist, elbow and shoulders
- Tendon and ligamentous injuries
- Cumulative trauma disorder/repetitive strain injury
- Diagnostics and post-surgical protocol
- Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders
- Multiple Sclerosis and other degenerative neurological diseases
- Stroke
Treatment is dependent upon physicians order, diagnosis and symptoms but may include the following :
- Upper extremity exercises for strength, flexibility and dexterity
- Training in Activities of daily living skills, adaptive techniques and assistive devices
- Joint mobilization & Soft tissue mobilization
- Myofascial Release
- Edema management
- Scar management
- Therapeutic Modalities
- Work station ergonomics
- Patient, family and caregiver education
- Provide suggestions for environmental modifications
